Relief Factor is arguably the most popular joint supplement available today. Developed by a company Promdev LLC, Relief Factor is claimed to be a natural remedy for joint stiffness & pain relief.

Relief Factor was developed by Pete and Seth Talbott, father and son, both experienced marketers and serial entrepreneurs. Outside of the realm of supplements, Pete and Seth Talbott are known for their coffee subscription services and software programs.

Pete and Seth claim various benefits of Relief Factor’s ingredients, including a reduction in pain associated with exercise, aging, and everyday life.

The manufacturers goes on to say that Relief Factor was developed by a doctor using natural ingredients.

But does Relief Factor really contain ingredients that work?

This is what we’re going to look at in today’s report. We will inspect each Relief Factor ingredient in detail, analyzing what it is claimed to do, what the clinical studies say about it, and what we think about the ingredients side effect risks.

The Ingredients in Relief Factor

What ingredients does Relief Factor contain? Have all of them really been proven to relieve joint pain?

Here is the list of ingredients in Relief Factor as of 2024:

  • Epimedium (20% Icariin) – 200mg
  • Turmeric phospholipid (18% curcuminoids) – 667mg
  • Japanese fleeceflower (96% trans-resveratrol) – 70mg
  • EPA – 647mg
  • DHA – 253mg

Some ingredients in Relief Factor are quite unusual; we do not normally see them used in joint supplements. You’d be forgiven for not knowing what these compounds are, or what they do!

On the flip side, Relief Factor also contains natural ingredients we do often encounter in joint supplements. These ingredients you have probably already seen if you have been researching natural joint pain relief supplements for some time.

We will now analyze each ingredient in Relief Factor up closer.


This ingredient is commonly found in supplements today, although it’s more commonly known as Horny Goat Weed. As far as the available evidence goes, Epimedium has no substantial effects on joint function.

Many people say Epimedium helps them with joint problems. They even sometimes mention the mechanism behind the purported benefits – icariin reportedly promotes blood flow. But we’re yet to find strong data that supports these benefits.

There are better ingredients, such as MSM or Boswellia Serrata, to include in its stead. The 200mg of Epimedium is a lot of capsule space to waste.


Turmeric is a common ingredient in joint supplements. Almost every single flexibility and anti-inflammatory stack you find on sale today likely have some turmeric in it. Taking large amounts of curcumin – turmeric’s active compound – should help lower joint inflammation & aching. But you will need to consume turmeric the right way for it to actually work.

Our body has a hard time absorbing turmeric on its own. It needs to be combined with piperine, which is black pepper extract. Piperine is shown to enhance the absorption of turmeric’s anti-inflammatory compounds by about 2000%. You need to either combine turmeric with piperine or use a patented form of turmeric which has optimal bioavailability, such as CurcuWIN or Meriva.

Relief Factor uses plain, standard turmeric powder, so it’s questionable how effective it will be for joint health.

Japanese fleeceflower root (70mg)

Japanese fleeceflower, or Japanese knotweed, is an invasive weed species growing in many parts of the world. It sometimes presents problems to gardeners and house owners due to its negative impact on native plants, being hard to eradicate.

But not all is bad with this weed, thankfully. Japanese knotweed is a source of resveratrol, a compound thought to have anti-aging and cardiovascular benefits. Supplementing it may help you in terms of general health, but there are better ingredients to put in its stead as far as joint pain goes—for example, bromelain.

Fish Oil (1400mg, consisting of 900mg of combined EPA+DHA)

EPA and DHA are anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids found in marine life, such as algae and fish. Omega-3s support your cardiovascular function, brain cell maintenance and growth, as well as maintaining healthy, flexible joints.

Essentially, EPA and DHA are potent anti-inflammatory compounds. Supplementing with large amounts of these omega-3 fatty acids can reduce swelling that leads to so much joint pain. The 900mg in Relief Factor is a decent serving for osteoarthritis and low-level inflammation, but it’s far from the recommended dosage of 2,700mg of combined EPA and DHA if you suffer from rheumatoid arthritis where inflammation is worse. Our Commentary of Relief Factor’s Ingredients

The main issue with Relief Factor ingredients is that some of them lack evidence for joint health. Japanese fleece flower is not common in any supplements, not just joint supplements.

We are not aware of reputable human studies showing Epimedium benefits joint pain or function. There are some animal studies suggesting it may benefit bone strength, but that’s not enough to convince us.

Essentially, half of Relief Factor’s formula is taken up by less-than-optimal ingredients.

What about the other half? The other half is omega-3s and turmeric, two ingredients that are proven to be effective joint pain relievers. As a result, you should still see some benefit from taking this supplement.

But even with these two good ingredients, there are problems.

The turmeric that Relief Factor uses is just plain turmeric powder. With no added absorption enhancers like black pepper extract.

Omega-3s could be dosed higher, but we won’t nitpick. This ingredient should lower your joint pain and inflammation to an extent, unless you suffer from severe flare-ups, in which case you will need to triple the dosage.

When you factor in the price (over 90$ for a one-time purchase), Relief Factor’s ingredient formula could use some improvement to be considered good value for money. Some of the compounds are untested, and the ones that do work, lack quality.

Can You Make Your Own Relief Factor?

You might ask, “can I simply make my own Relief Factor?“Is it more affordable than buying the product itself?”

The answer is yes.

Creating your own custom Relief Factor would be easy, and would cost less than buying the product itself. Not only that, purchasing the most effective Relief Factor ingredient individually – while ignoring the pointless fillers – will likely get you better results than you would get from Relief Factor while saving you money.

To make your own Relief Factor, buy a premium-quality turmeric extract standardized to have 65% or more curcumin, and combine it with a pinch of black pepper, omega-3 fats, some blueberries, and grapes into a smoothie. Having this daily should recreate the benefits of Relief Factor and then some, while at the same time being much cheaper!


Relief Factor is not the worst joint supplement, but for the price, it’s not the best one either. Given the ingredients used, we can’t recommend it as a good option.

Half of its formula consists of ingredients that lack studies proving they help joint pain or mobility. The only effective ingredients in Relief Factor – omega-3 oils and turmeric – are things you can buy for much cheaper at your local drugstore or online.
