David Boone, BSPO, MPH, PhD

David A. Boone, BSPO, MPH, PhD is Orthocare Innovations’ Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder. Since 1984, Dr. Boone has focused his career on rehabilitation research, biomechanics, and prosthetic orthotic design. Dr. Boone trained as a clinical prosthetist orthotist, earning Bachelor’s degrees from the University of Washington School of Medicine and Master’s degree in Health Economics from the Washington School of Public Health and Community Medicine, and finally his PhD in Biomechanics from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Working first as a research prosthetist at the Roehampton Bioengineering Centre of University College London in England, David was part of the team that developed and commercialized one of the first CAD/CAM suites for mobility aids. With Dr. Ernest Burgess, he was part of the development team that developed the Seattle Limb System and ShapeMaker CAD systems for the US Department of Veterans Affairs. From 1988 to 1995 David was instrumental in establishing the Prosthetics Outreach Foundation / Mobility Outreach International, supported clinical prosthetics center in Hanoi that continues today under the Vietnam Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs. From 1997 to 2005 he was part of the group that established the first University degree program in prosthetics and orthotics at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He was eventually promoted to the rank of Associate Professor there and Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr. Boone has co-authored 40 Journal articles in peer-reviewed publications and is an inventor on 13 issued patents. Dr. Boone led teams that have won three R&D 100 national engineering awards as well as Gold and Bronze Edison Awards and a Silver Medical Design Excellence Award. Dr. Boone has been Principal Investigator or Co-PI on more than 20 research grants totaling more than US$17,000,000 in funding.
