Bernice Kegel, PT

Bernice graduated with a degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg South Africa in 1972.   After working briefly in London and Chicago, she came to Seattle in 1975 to work for Dr. Ernest Burgess at Prosthetics Research study, where she spent her time doing research and managing the amputee Rehab at Seattle VA.   She worked for Dr. Burgess for seven years and later went onto serve on the board of Prosthetics Outreach Foundation (now Mobility Outreach International) for 20 years.   During her time with Dr. Burgess, she did many presentations and research papers, mainly on the functional abilities of amputees, and amputee sports.  While on the board, she was fortunate enough to go to Vietnam to see in person the work they were doing. Her most inspiring physical therapy trip was to go to the Dominican Republic four weeks after the Haiti earthquake in 2010, where she worked with 13 kids and their families, most of whom had sustained  amputations. Bernice also volunteers as a national classifier for Wheelchair Basketball, and has been doing this for several years.
